A travel expo is a crowded room full of people who want your booking. With a plan, it is also one of the best afternoons a traveler can spend: dozens of experts, free talks and genuine show-only offers, all in one place.

Before the Show

  • Read the exhibitor list and talk schedule; mark the booths and sessions you want.
  • Know your budget, dates and who is traveling, so you can ask precise questions.
  • Get a price for the trip you are considering before you go, so you can judge show offers.
  • Make a separate email address for show sign-ups if you want to keep your inbox tidy.
  • Wear comfortable shoes and bring a bag for brochures and a phone charger.

At the Show

  • Go to the talks. Destination presentations are free and often the most useful hour of the day.
  • Ask the hard questions. What is included? What is the total for two? What are the cancellation terms?
  • Collect offers in writing. A card or flyer with the offer code, terms and expiry date.
  • Enter the prize draws you want. Read what you are agreeing to receive.
  • Do not pay in cash or by wire. Use a credit card, and only once you have read the terms.

Expo Tip Questions

Are show-only travel deals real?

Often, yes. Exhibitors at genuine shows bring offers for visitors. They are worth having only if they beat what you could get elsewhere, so know your baseline price before you go.

Should I book on the spot at an expo?

Only if you have compared the price and read the terms. A good show offer usually has a booking window of days or weeks after the event.

What to Bring Home

The best souvenirs of an expo are practical: a short list of two or three trips that excite you, the names of the people you spoke to, and written offers with their deadlines. Throw away the brochures you will not read and keep the rest in one folder. Within a week, while it is fresh, decide which trip you want to price properly.

Above all, enjoy it. A good travel expo is a day of ideas, and the best trips often start with a conversation at a booth you did not plan to visit.

If you are thinking of working in travel yourself, an expo is also a good place to watch how professionals present trips, answer questions and follow up. Our sister site Be a Travel Agent explains how to get started.
